The Prime Minister Plans to Meet with Min Aung Hlaing Again

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen has told the Prime Minister of Japan that he plans to meet with Myanmar military leader Min Aung Hlaing again to push forward the five-point ASEAN consensus.

In a press conference after the Prime Minister attended the 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit from Japan on the afternoon of 24 April 2022, Minister Delegate Kao Kim Hourn told reporters that during the Prime Minister’s meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, he said that some progress has been made in resolving the issue in Myanmar, as he plans to meet with Min Aung Hlaing again to push for a five-point ASEAN consensus as well as reducing violence, providing aid, and establishing a dialogue in Myanmar.

"The Prime Minister also informed the Prime Minister of Japan that he also plans to meet with Min Aung Hlaing to continue to push for these five points of agreement," said Kao Kim Hourn.

He said that the Prime Minister had already met with Myanmar military leader Min Aung Hlaing twice, in early 2022, and in February via video call.

At these two meetings, the Prime Minister wanted to push for a solution for Myanmar, as well as to remind the leaders to honor their promises.

The Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon, led a delegation on a work visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar from March 21 to 23, 2022. After returning from Myanmar to Cambodia, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon said, "This visit to Myanmar is to learn about the current situation and to understand the position of the stakeholders and listen to their requests."
