Government Calls for Participation in Commemorating the 136th Anniversary of International Labor Day

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government has called on members of the public to participate in the commemoration of the 136th anniversary of International Labor Day, on 1 May, which will be held under the theme of peace, health and occupational security in 2022. The Royal Government calls on all government officials, employers, and workers (both local and foreign) to join in on the celebration of International Labor Day, with a happy atmosphere and a sense of solidarity and brotherhood, all the while firmly implementing the '3 Do's and 3 Don't's' protective measures.

In a circular dated 6 April 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen instructed the capital and provincial governors to cooperate with organizations and employers to hold a get-together with workers, unions, representatives of civil servants and teachers for the occasion of the Khmer New Year as well as the 136th Commemoration of International Labor Day, 1 May, 2022, on a small-scale taking into consideration of the real situation (regarding Covid-19). Employers must also self-organize these celebrations at factories and enterprises.

At the same time, the Ministry of Information must encourage public and private media, including social media, to disseminate this circular and message of the Prime Minister calling for the commemoration of the 136th anniversary of International Labor Day on 1 May 2022.

The relevant ministries, institutions, capital, provinces, and factories must choose appropriate locations, such as main streets, factories, enterprises, construction sites and farms, to put up banners and slogans with messages such as: "Long live the King!", "The Kingdom of Cambodia Celebrates the 136th Anniversary of International Labor Day, May 1", "Peace, Health and Job Security”

It should be noted that the Kingdom of Cambodia has always celebrated International Labor Day on 1 May, a historical event of the international workers' movement held every year since 1979.
