Cambodia Face Iraq in 2022 World Cup Qualifier Tonight

Manama, 7 June 2021: Cambodia play Iraq tonight in their next 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier. To go through to the next round of qualifiers the national team will need to beat Iraq and then beat Iran on Friday but will still also have to rely on the results of other matches in Group C.

Cambodia is currently at the bottom of the group. After six matches, it has just one point. Cambodia was beaten by Bahrain last Thursday 8-0, putting Bahrain top of the group on 12 points. Bahrain is sure to advance to the second qualifying round. It is also hosting this week’s matches in the capital, Manama.

The Cambodian national team says it needs a win tonight to keep fans happy. Defender, Svay Rieng, has been quoted as saying, "I am happy to play this game against Iraq because it is a high level team. We want good results and will sacrifice our physical strength, mental strength and will for the team, for our country and for our supporters."

Tonight’s match will kick-off at 9.30pm Cambodian time.
