Cambodia Set To Crash Out of 2022 World Cup Asian Qualifiers

Manama, 4 June 2021: Cambodia appears to have lost all hope of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It does not appear that it will make it through to the next round of Asian Qualifiers.

The national team was thrashed by Bahrain last night in the capital Manama. The final score was 8-nil. It wasn’t a great night generally for ASEAN countries. Hong Kong was beaten 3-1 by Iran, Malaysia was crushed 4-0 by the UAE and Singapore also lost 4-0 to the Palestinians.

Cambodia’s defeat last night means that after six matches, it has just one point and is wallowing at the bottom of Group C. That group also includes Hong Kong, Iraq, Iran, and Bahrain. Thanks to last night’s win, Bahrain go top of the group with 12 points and is sure to advance to the next round.

If they are to salvage any hope at all, Cambodia will need to beat Iraq on Monday and then rely on the results of other matches in the group. Cambodia has yet to qualify for a World Cup final tournament.
