Preah Sihanouk Provincial Authorities to Speed Up Installation of "Preah Thong Neang Neak" Statue Before KNY

SIHANOUKVILLE: Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities are preparing to install the statue of "Preah Thong Neang Neak", which is scheduled to be complete by 14 April 2022, and ready for the the upcoming Khmer New Year.

On Friday morning (8 April), General You Sunlong, with a delegation comprised of the Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister, Hun Sitha, and the Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, Kouch Chamroeun, inspected the progress made on erecting the statue of "Preah Thong Neang Neak" at the Preah Thong Neang Neak roundabout in Koki village, Bit Trang commune, Prey Nob district, Preah Sihanouk province. The statue is being installed in preparation of the upcoming Khmer New Year, which will be commemorated under the presidency of Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife, First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen.

According to the technical team, this statue has been assembled and installed on a throne and is scheduled to be completed before 14 April 2022 before the upcoming Khmer New Year.

The 21-meter-tall "Preah Thong Neang Neak" statue, built in the Khmer architectural style, was transported from China to the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on 25 March 2022. The statue will be erected to face the sea, to appear as though the figures are walking towards the water, to Than Phu Chong Neak. The statue is a symbol of the birth of Khmer territory, culture, civilization, traditions and customs.

On 16 April 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen and First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen will personally inaugurate this statue.
