Cambodian Energy Forum on "Preparing Cambodia's Energy System for the Future"

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Mines and Energy, Suy Sem, presided over the opening ceremony of the Cambodia Energy Forum on Designing the Future of Cambodia's Power System, organized by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Electricity Authority of Cambodia (Electricite du Cambodge), government agencies, embassies, development partners and the private sector.

The forum is the first international event organized by the Ministry of Mines and Energy as the chair of the ASEAN Energy Summit 2022 under the auspices of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The forum will focus on Cambodia's energy sector, followed by a regional dialogue on energy sector transitions in Southeast Asia.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Mines and Energy has been preparing a master plan for the development of the energy sector, which is a comprehensive plan for the long term (2021-2040), which aims to study and evaluate the scenario of increasing demand, various options for the development of power sources, and to study to understand the need to expand the transmission and distribution network. The basic principle leading this master planning process is to provide all consumers with an affordable, stable and reliable power supply while improving the security of the power supply and the efficiency of electricity use in all sectors.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy is committed to maximizing and prioritizing the expansion of clean energy, especially renewable energy and energy efficiency. This approach is in line with the strategic framework and programs to restore and stimulate economic growth in living with Covid-19 along the new normalization path set by the Royal Government, which includes three pillars: recovery, reform and resilience.
