PM: ASEAN and UN want to see peace for Myanmar people

PHNOM PENH: The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, and the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, expressed the common vision between ASEAN and the UN on the desire to see a peaceful Myanmar.

This statement was made when prime minister received Dr. Noeleen Heyzer at the Peace Palace on the evening of April 1, 2022.

During the meeting, Noeleen expressed her views on resolving the Myanmar issue by establishing a multilateral framework based on three concepts: the process of finding a solution to the Myanmar problem must reflect the will of the people of Myanmar with the support of ASEAN countries and the international community, mostly the West.

She added: "This framework is not different from the five points of consensus of ASEAN: 1. "Focus on one humanitarian aid, two protection of the people and three return to civilian rule, which is necessary to build trust."

In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked Dr. Noeleen for raising the issue of Myanmar.

"We have a common goal of finding peace, stability and prosperity for the people of Myanmar, and what remains to be done is to stop the violence and bring humanitarian aid to all the people in need," he said. "build trust, solve problems, especially through the five-point unanimous agreement of ASEAN."
