PHNOM PENH: The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva said that many countries at the UN General Assembly in Geneva have acknowledged Cambodia's efforts and progress in Promoting human rights in the country.

In a press release issued on 30 March 2022, the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the UN, Mr. Sokkhoeurn An stated that 28 out of 36 countries expressed their support for Cambodia's efforts, progress and achievements in promote and protect human rights. Delegates applauded the government's measures to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic, including the high rate of free nationwide vaccinations and various social protection programs for vulnerable groups, also recognized the progress and achievements in promoting the role of women in leadership, entrepreneurship in peace and security, as well as the promotion of children's rights.

The International Delegation commended Cambodia for its efforts in consulting with a wide range of stakeholders in drafting a law on national human rights institutions in line with the Paris Principles.

In addition, most of those delegations were: "Emphasize the way the Special Rapporteur works, which should adhere to the principles of fairness, balance, non-politics, modernization and non-partisanship, taking into account the views of the government, the circumstances of the country and the importance of reliable and there is proper verification and facts."

Cambodia's efforts in electoral reform, political space and the multiplicity of political views to ensure that the upcoming elections are free, fair, orderly, peaceful and transparent were also expressed by the delegations of ASEAN and other countries are welcoming as well.

Only eight delegations expressed their views criticizing the civil and political spheres, including freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, while almost all welcomed the long-standing cooperation and Cambodia's constructive engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Convention Implementation Monitoring Committee, and the Special Rapporteur. It also acknowledges Cambodia's socio-economic progress and efforts to implement electoral reform.
