Labor Minister Praises Pauline Tamesis for Cambodia's Development Efforts

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, Mr. Ith Sam Heng recalled the time spent working with the UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, saying that in her compassionate work, she has contributed significantly to the Ministry of Labor and Development in the Cambodian in labor sector.

Addressing the Courtesy Call of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, Pauline Tamesis, who concluded her term in Cambodia on the morning of 30 March 2022 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Ith Sam Heng said the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, which has been working with the UN for the past four years, has been proud of its success. He praised her coordination for fruitful progress.

He said: "The United Nations in Cambodia, together with its development partners, has made a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of Cambodia, which has enabled Cambodia to address many other important issues in the Covid-19 context, […] These are the achievements that she left behind in Cambodia, hoping that she will be successful in her new job."

Ms. Pauline Tamesis thanked Mr. Ith Sam Heng, stating that these achievements also come from the leadership of the Minister and the leadership of the Ministry. In the past, the United Nations in Cambodia has been able to achieve success due to the fact that the owners of the country are fully able to cooperate in a good partnership with each other.

"This collaboration reflects the building of human capital of Cambodia under the management, leadership and coordination of the Royal Government of Cambodia," she added.

She claims that although her mission is over, the UN has a lot of work to do in Cambodia, including the UN's five-year strategic plan to work with the Cambodian government.

She asked for more support from the Minister and the Ministry of Institutions of the Cambodian government on the work ahead, while the Minister of Labor welcomed.

Pauline Tamesis was appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia on 12 March 2018. Prior to coming to Cambodia, Tamesis spent two years in Thailand, where she worked as Country Director at UNDP Bangkok Regional Center.

During her four years of mission, Pauline Tamesis has been involved in key work related to employment and vocational training in Cambodia, including decent work, TVET skills development for youth, migration, garments, and social security.
