Cambodian Students Develop New Translation App

Phnom Penh, 3 June 2021: A group of Cambodian students have launched a new app that converts English speech into Khmer text.

“Khmer ASR” is already available at your favourite app store and is suitable for iOS and Android phones. It stands for “Khmer Automatic Speech Recognition” and has been developed by students at the Cambodian Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) in association with the National Institute of Posts and Telecommunications (ICT) and Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

The app’s founder, Chy Sophat, announced the news on his Facebook page. He believes “Khmer ASR” will help foreigners in Cambodia, with it instantly turning English speech into Khmer text. It will make communication much easier and help foreigners with access to information.
