DPM Sar Kehng: National Strategic Plan on Identification is an Important Plan of the Royal Government

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Interior, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng, stated that the National Strategic Plan on Identification is an important plan of the Royal Government of Cambodia with a long-term strategic vision to guide the management of citizen identity data through modern technology, and the use of identification data to improve the efficiency of providing public services to citizens. He made this statement while chairing the 6th Meeting of the National Steering Committee for Civil Service Statistics, Statistics and Identification Rate at the Ministry of Interior, on Tuesday, 29 March.

He said, "Reforming the Identity Management System remains a top priority for the Royal Government, in accordance with the sixth mandate of the National Assembly, as the Identity Management System is the backbone of all public and private services. It is a task that Cambodia must contribute to for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals."

DPM Sar Kheng also encouraged the working group to continue paying more attention to implementing the above stated work to achieve better results. He further instructed the Secretariat of the NEC to prepare a summary of the minutes of the 5th meeting to be shared with relevant institutions, and encouraged the working group to continue finding development partners to support the implementation of the above strategic plan.

According to the report of the Director General of the General Department of Identification and Head of the the National Strategic Plan on Identification Secretariat, General Kang Sokhon, identification work focuses on two main tasks: managing the identities of people and providing services to the people. Administrative services to citizens refers to the use of personal identity data to provide services to citizens, such as birth certificates, identity cards, residence books, family books, passports, enrollment, land ownership, housing, vehicles and business registration.
