Uruguayan fans celebrate their qualification into the World Cup

INTERNATIONAL: Uruguay erupted in celebration on Thursday (March 24) night after its soccer team secured a spot for the World Cup, joining Brazil and Argentina as the automatic qualifiers from the South American group.

Cheers and fireworks greeted the final whistle in Montevideo after Uruguay beat Peru 1-0.

Uruguay earned the win over Peru thanks to Giorgian de Arrascaeta's goal three minutes before halftime.

Peru was adamant a late looping shot held by Uruguay keeper Sergio Rochet had crossed the line, but the referee waved away their claims for an equalizer.
