Ministry of Public Works Earns More Than US $70 Million from Special License Plates

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has announced that the sale of special license plates for more than 6 years has earned them more than US $70 million.

In the meeting held to discuss the progress report on the sale of car registration numbers on Wednesday, 23 March, the Ministry of Public Works presented a report from September 2016 to February 2022, showing that the Ministry sold 201,980 special license plate numbers, to earn a total revenue of 280.7 billion riel, equivalent to around US $70.1 million.

Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Chair of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for the Management of Sales of Car Registration Numbers, Koy Sodany, said that this type of license plate is becoming more and more popular among citizens. She added that the Ministry will further disseminate information about the special license plates to companies, enterprises and citizens so that more people can know about it, and national income from license plate sales can be even higher.

She said that the commission would look into the possibility of meeting with companies to make them aware of the different options on offer, as well as the common principles behind the purchase of special registration numbers and personal registration numbers.
