PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen met with the President of Huawei Asia Pacific, Lin Baifeng, at the Peace Palace on Thursday morning (24 March). During their meeting, the Chinese tech company Regional President thanked Prime Minister Hun Sen for allowing Huawei to operate in Cambodia for more than 23 years, and presented the Prime Minister with Huawei’s intention to help develop the information technology sector in Cambodia.
Lin Baifeng, said that he has observed the digital economy in Cambodia growing rapidly, which makes his company want to participate in supporting this sector even more.
He asked Prime Minister Hun Sen to allow Huawei to participate in the development of the information technology sector in Cambodia through human resource development, the provision of the latest technologies, and support in preparing the infrastructure to connect all information networks and people in a secure and sovereign manner.
In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen urged Huawei to work with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to train human resources and bring the latest technology to Cambodia which will ensure greater online security and the protection of sovereignty.
The Prime Minister’s assistant, Eang Sophalleth, confirmed to reporters after the meeting that the "Prime Minister welcomed and encouraged Mr. Baifeng to work with the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Chea Van Det, to continue providing training and continue helping Cambodia receive the latest technology to ensure information security and global competition."
The Huawei Asia Pacific President also presented Prime Minister Hun Sen with 100 IdeaHub Interactive Whiteboards and 500 desktop computers as a donation to the Royal Government of Cambodia.
Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies was founded in 1987. The company is a provider of ICT services and smart devices, and operates in more than 170 countries and regions around the world.
