Japan Announces Continued Support for Cambodian Elections

PHNOM PENH:​​ The Prime Minister of Japan, Kishida Fumio, has announced that Japan will continue to support the Cambodian election in order to stand up for democracy in the country.

Speaking at the press conference on the evening of 20 March 2022, Prime Minister Kishida Fumio reaffirmed his support for democracy and human rights in Cambodia by joining the Royal Government of Cambodia to support these areas. As Cambodia prepares for elections in 2022 and 2023, he announced that the Japanese government will continue to support the elections in Cambodia.

"Japan continues to support Cambodia's ability to vote to reflect the diversity of views in Cambodia," he said.

In 2022, the Kingdom of Cambodia will hold the Commune / Sangkat Council Election on 5 June 2022 with 17 political parties participating; then the National Election for Members of Parliaments will be organized for the upcoming 2023.
