Vietnamese Military Announces Strengthening of Border Friendship with Cambodia

Phnom Penh: The General Staff and Deputy Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Tan Cuong informed Prime Minister Hun Sen that the Vietnamese military will join the Cambodian army on the border to cooperate in the Cambodian-Vietnamese border area to make the border area a regional safe for the citizens of both countries.

Addressing the meeting with the Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace this morning, 19 March 2022, Mr. Nguyen Tan Cuong praised Cambodia's Covid-19 vaccination campaign, which guaranteed the reopening of the country in all sectors now. He also praised the organization of the ASEAN Military Summit that Cambodia is currently hosting.

Regarding border affairs, Mr. Nguyen Tan Cuong informed Prime Minister Hun Sen that the Cambodian-Vietnamese army will hold a meeting on the border, strengthen friendship, expand cooperation on national defense, and establish a special joint number to solve any problems that may arise, timely training, research and emergency response, as well as information sharing to maintain peace and security along the border.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen welcomed and encouraged the armies of both countries to continue cooperating, as Mr. Nguyen Tan Cuong mentioned, and to seek other possible cooperation to make have security and peace at the border.

Prime Minister’s assistant, Eang Sophalleth told reporters "Prime Minister stated that the former battlefield is a place of peace and friendship, He also briefed the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense on Cambodia's vaccination strategy and the success of the unconditional reception of tourists to Cambodia.”
