Detained Iranian-British Aid Worker Nazanin Freed to Return to UK

INTERNATIONAL: Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, detained in Iran nearly six years ago, has been freed and is on her way to the UK, her MP Tulip Siddiq has said on Wednesday March 16.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in April 2016 as she prepared to fly back to the UK, having taken her daughter, Gabriella ,who was then under two years old to see relatives. She was accused of plotting to overthrow the Iranian government and has sentenced to five years in jail, spending four years in Tehran’s Evin prison and one under house arrest.

Her husband Richard Ratcliffe, who lives with their six-year-old daughter Gabriella in Hampstead, London, had campaigned for her release, including by going on hunger strike in October last year.
