INTERNATIONAL: Adelaide Zoo in South Australia announced the debut appearance of a new baby quokka on March 10.
Although they were once abundant in Australia, today quokkas are vulnerable animals, threatened by extinction, according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
The new baby quokka at Adelaide zoo made its debut appearance out of the mother's pouch on 10 March.
Adelaide zoo have said that quokka joeys live in their mother’s pouch for around five months before exploring the world out on their own.
Five-year-old quokka, Yiray, had previously given birth to a joey who did not survive. However, now she is mother to a new adorable and curious joey, that has brought much joy to the zookeepers in Adelaide.
