1-Year-old Baby Catches A/H9 Bird Flu

SIEM REAP: Doctors have found a case of bird flu A/H9 Influenza in a one-year-old baby girl, through the pneumonia surveillance system. The CDC of the Ministry of Health announced this case on Friday, 11 March, after the results were confirmed by the National Laboratory on Thursday, 10 March.

The bird flu case was found in Trapeang Run village, Russey Lok commune, Chi Kreng district, in Siem Reap province. A series of dead chickens have been reported in that village since February 2022.

The baby exhibited bird flu symptoms including a fever, cough and shortness of breath and was treated at the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap.

After finding this case, the Ministry of Health sent officers from the Department of Infectious Diseases to cooperate with the provincial emergency response team to conduct further investigation, prevent development of an epidemic, and also disseminate health information and education to the local people.
