Kampot Multi-Purpose Port Will Provide about 10,000 Jobs to the People

KAMPOT: The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, said that when the the Kampot Logistics and Multipurpose Port Investment Project is completed, it will provide about 10,000 jobs.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, 5 May, of the construction of the Kampot Logistics and Multipurpose Port Investment Project in Bokor City, Kampot Province, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol said that this port will play an important role in organizing logistics warehouses, a special economic zone and fuel and gas centers in Cambodia. This port will complement the work of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and Phnom Penh.

He said that if the port can access the Bassac River, it will play an important role in transporting our agricultural products across the country through waterways to the sea, to the port of Kampot and export abroad.

The Senior Minister added that the port will be developed in three stages, with the first step being to prepare the port to handle 300,000 TEUs by 2025 and 600,000 TEUs by 2030. The port has a depth of 15 to 16 meters, and can allows ships up to 100,000 tons to dock. The port can be a special economic zone, special trade zone, a liquid storage facility for LNG, LPG, oil, all of which are included within the port project plan, with the first phase costing $200 million dollars. The budget will go up to 1.5 billion US dollars in later phases.

The Minister of Public Works and Transport also stated that the construction of the investment center, logistics center, and multi-purpose port of Kampot Logistics & Export Co., Ltd. will contribute to the development of Cambodia to be more prosperous and to become a high-income country by 2050.
