Hun Kosal Promoted to Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Land Management

PHNOM PENH: After switching political sides and joining the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), former Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) activist, Hun Kosal, was appointed by the King as a new Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.

According to the Royal Decree signed by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni on Monday. 24 April 2023, Hun Kosal was appointed this new position under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Hun Kosal was released by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on 22 April. He thanked Prime Minister Hun Sen for coordinating his release with the court.

Hun Kosal's release came one day after his friend, Yim Sinorn, also asked to join the CPP and met up with Prime Minister Hun Sen at his residence.

In a release order dated 22 April 2023, the Investigating Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, Khy Sok Vouch, ordered the Director of the 1st Correctional Center (M1) of the Ministry of Interior to release the accused, Hun Kosal.

Previously, on 22 March, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court issued an arrest warrant for Hun Kosal and Yim Sinorn on charges of "insulting the King and inciting serious chaos", as stipulated in Article 437 (duplicate) of the Law Amending the Criminal Code and Articles 494 and 495 of the Criminal Code.
