Cambodia-India Commence Joint Project to Preserve Preah Vihear Temple

PREAH VIHEAR: Archaeologists from the National Authority for Preah Vihear Temple and a team of archaeologists from India have begun preservation work on an archeological site at the Temple of Preah Vihear, a joint project between Cambodia and India.

Excavation began in the northeast of the 5th Gopura, Preah Vihear Temple, on Thursday, 11 August 2022, to learn about the construction fundamentals techniques for the 5th Gopura, and to also collect data and prepare documents for conservation and restoration.

The archeological excavation is scheduled to last 30 days, led by the Director of the Department of Conservation and Archeology, Dr. Ear Darith.

Cambodia and India signed an agreement on the conservation and restoration of the Temple of Preah Vihear during Indian Foreign Minister Susma Swaraj's visit to Cambodia in August 2018.
